Semiarundinaria is an East Asian genus of bamboo plants native to China and Japan discovered in temperate and subtropical areas of woodland.
Semiarundinaria Genus Species
This group of bamboos are running species, meaning they will spread over future years if left without a containment barrier. Although they are less likely to spread as fast in cooler climates as they may in warmer climates.
Planting in the ground for a windbreak, specimen plant, or privacy hedge. Large containers can be used to contain spread in smaller gardens.
Different species within the genus will have slightly different hardiness levels indicated with species information.
Every Semiarundinaria species has individual culm characteristics with a maximum culm width for the genus being 38 mm (1.5 inches).
Culm heights to between 3m - 7.6 m (10ft - 25ft).
The bamboo genus Semiarundinaria species grow with a running habit. These bamboos can be an invasive species over future years following planting in the ground. It has to be accepted therefore that unless you have the space to let these plants spread freely, you may want to consider a rhizome barrier to control the spread or plant in a container. Do not plant next to a neighbours fence boundary without this knowledge.
